Racism in reverse?
Why doe the media seem to be more critical of John McCain and Sarah Palin than Obama and Biden?
The main reason why I believe this is because most of the media sources are liberal. Having a liberal media doesn’t help news, stories and sources from being unbiased.
I also think part of the problem with a media bias against Republicans is because Barack Obama is African American. I hate to say this, but I believe it to be true. It is like there is a new racism present in society today and this racism is toward white people. I think people hate to say anything negative about Obama because they are afraid of being labeled as a racist.
The comments made about Obama could be true and factual, but there are some out there who are going to label a person a racist just for saying anything negative about Obama.
It seems to me that some of the comments Obama has made would never slide under the radar if McCain were to make the same exact comments.
One of these comments is when Obama referred to his grandmother as a “typical, white person.”
Obama’s first comment was” a woman who loves me as much as she loves anything in this world, but a woman who once confessed her fear of black men who passed her by on the street, and who on more than one occasion has uttered racial or ethnic stereotypes that made me cringe. “
Obama’s later response to comments made on the above, make him seem even more racist.
“The point I was making was not that my grandmother harbors any racial animosity — she doesn’t,” he said. “But she is a typical white person who, you know, if she sees somebody on the street that she doesn’t know, there is a reaction that has been bred into our experiences that don’t go away and that sometimes come out in the wrong way.”
Even this comment has a racist feel to it. He is stereotyping white people into this image when if anyone saw someone they didn’t know walking down the street toward them (whether white, black, asian, etc.), anybody would have “a reaction.”
This reaction has nothing to do with racial stereotypes, but everything to do with safety. To put this into perspective, earlier this week, a student from the college I attend was shot in the chest on what is considered the property of campus. Now this is the reason people have a reaction when they see someone strange walking past them. It is a fear of not wanting what happened to this student to happen to them.
And it is a logical reaction. We are taught from a young age to be aware of our surroundings and to stay away from people who make us feel uncomfortable.
It also has not been released what the race of the three men is, but that isn’t the point.
The point is that we live in a society where people need to be cautious when out by themselves, no matter what race.
Now, to be honest, if McCain would have said his grandmother was a typical, black person, (this statement is pretending his grandmother is black) everybody would be in an uproar saying he was racist, no matter what he “implied” by the comment.
Now why didn’t America get more upset about this? Like I said, I think it has to do with Obama’s race and the fact that most well-known media outlets are liberal. People are afraid of being called a racist, so instead of being fair and calling Obama’s comments for what they are, most are too afraid of being labeled as a racist.
While I was looking up information on Obama’s comment about his grandma, a Web site had this question listed. Would Obama be where he is at today if he wasn’t African American? This is an interesting question to pose, considering Obama’s lack of experience compared to other earlier Democratic nominee choices and John McCain.
I think what a person has to think about while answering this question is that people want to be equal opportunists, which isn’t a bad thing, but at the same time, if a person is not qualified, well then no amount of equal opportunities makes up for lack of experience.
